  1. I agree… Ruby’s mother, cloaked like a Tolkien character in 2004, did *the* most dramatic and aggressive pointing in DW, and it was a total let down in the reveal as to the reason why. It feels like something RTD wrote originally, and may have had a slightly better payoff, or was re-written as the series progressed… or, like some of the things he’s done, just simply sounded better in his head and on paper than it does committed to video.

    1. Yes, it’s hard to believe this is what it was meant to be all along. Unless RTD was trying to be so tricksy, and such a rug puller, that he deliberately stuck an underwhelming resolution onto something they’d built up – because no one would expect that? Could it tie into Millie being dropped from the Xmas episode, and having a reduced load in the second season? Who knows.
